We are doing great at Woodlawn with both low rates of positive cases and low rates of absenteeism. It is our aim to continue with in-person instruction. As always, please call the main office if your child is not going to be in school. Oregon will no longer consider masked contact in schools to be an exposure regardless of distancing.
Students work 4-6 weeks during the year and have opportunities to substitute when other patrollers can’t make their shift. The Woodlawn Food Pantry has shifted the time up by 30 minutes! Please share with those you know who access the pantry. Remember, the Woodlawn pantry is open to all students, families, staff and community.
- We are excited to welcome you to the Back to School Night sessions on Thursday.
- We will be addressing how best to provide the products in the boy’s restrooms and still adhere to the requirements of the law.
- We have successfully returned to combined grade-level lunches in the cafeteria this week.
- Encourage your student to look at poems this week and weekend and consider a piece to present.
It benefits our students and our grade level teams get to know all of the students. Kindergarten does not departmentalize, they have their homeroom teacher for all subjects. You’ll have a chance to learn more about this at Back to school Night next week.

The presentation will be pre-recorded and available beforehand so that we will not gather the large group together. Instead, you’ll have time to drop into your students’ classrooms and work spaces to meet staff and sign up for conferences. There will be community partners onsite for you to visit, too.
Even though we won’t be gathering in the auditorium, we hope you check out the progress in this space. Over the summer the stage was refinished and the carpet was replaced. PPS will also xabcd pattern indicator suite for ninjatrader 8 be working on replacing the screen, the blinds over the windows and possibly the stage curtains. We will work to replace the sound panels through our Run for Woodlawn fundraiser.
March Virtual Assembly
Each Wednesdaystudents should return a filled test kit to the cooler at the main entrance on 11th. Our 4th graders went to Woodlawn Park today and, in partnership with City of Portland, planted most volatile currency pairs native plants near the Woodlawn Park playground. Students planted fern and varieties of Oregon grape and learned the importance of native plants in sustaining a healthy ecosystem.
- This program is run by Sharon Meigh-Chang, who shows up each day to direct volunteers.
- Students can share their piece solo or in a pair or small group.
- If you have more than one Woodlawn student in your home you can register each child.
Visitors will not be allowed to cheer the runners this year as we work to minimize exposures to our students. SUN School registration is now open for Kindergarten-5th grade students. On Monday, September 19th, there will be SUN staff available at the end of the day to support families with registration if you run into difficulty using the online form. Stop by the table at the front door area for help.

We will have chromebooks available at school for pick up. Also on that first day, the classroom teacher will send out information about the schedule for the following days. Live or virtual instruction will begin on the second day of the switch. We are grateful to partner with all parents, caregivers and families in helping our students come to school ready to learn in their code of color clothing each day. As the summer gets closer and we begin to prepare for next school year we will share store names, websites and coupons for where to find Code of Color items.

- We are getting more excited each day as we plan for our full day, 5 days per week program.

Our staff will be discussing classroom expectations and behaviors that allow students to feel comfortable in their choice. There will be some staff and students who continue wearing a mask for myriad reasons. We are excited to host our Woodlawn poets in a live Poetry Slam in person this year on Thursday, April 7. The Woodlawn Auditorium will once again transform into the Wildcat Poetry Lounge and we will showcase some of our most wonderful students. Secretaries Day is TODAY, Wednesday, April 27th.Kellie and Sandra are integral members of our school team and we are thankful to have them.
Virtual October Assembly
Bring on the homemade soups, chili, salads, breads, chips, dessert goodies and drinks to feed our beloved staff on this Planning Day. Additionally, we will be canceling Grandparents and Special Friends Day on Friday the 19th due to an abundance of caution. We will be hosting a virtual author visit with Aron Nels Steinke at 10am on Friday, November 19. It is targeted for 2nd-5th but will be appropriate for all ages. Next week, we will be sending home FIVE kits for each participating student. These kits will cover the remaining test weeks for November and December 2021 and the first week of January 2022(!).
Food for the event will be “progressive” in nature. Mini-sandwiches, chips, carrots and water will be available for nibbling while wandering. We will be using all of our shared spaces for activities and will not have a space for “sit-down” eating.
April Virtual Assembly
If your child needs a coat, please reach out to our school office for assistance. We wish our families could have walked through the building and shared in this experience, so we bring you thisvideo gallery. Enjoy the thoughtful, joyful art we created and the Black leaders we celebrate. Students will receive their pledge forms this week and the run will be held on Friday, October 1st. Donations are accepted as soon as the pledge forms are brought home. Our Run for Woodlawn dollars support the art, music and PE programs as well as recess and brain breaks.
Pull out items from the folder and be sure to return the blue folder in your child’s backpack. This week, Woodlawn’s Family & Community Calendar Handbook will be delivered to you in the Wednesday folder. If you are willing to volunteer and have had a background check in the past 3 years, pleasesign up. Contact , to verify your standing in the system . Woodlawn SUN by SEI’s new start date for fall programming is October 18th. Students will select and lead a project that fosters greater awareness and inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community.
Today marks the first day that all grade levels are at school. 1- Volunteers needed for outdoor lunchThe outdoor lunch parent/community assistance efforts begin next week on September 13th. Thank you to our outside lunch parent volunteers! If you’d like to join the outside lunch volunteer team, please see information below from the PTA. Our Virtual Back to School Schedule will be sent electronically on Wednesday. We will look at who wants to be a part of this group and determine the appropriate days and times for meeting together.
